Here are the simple steps to begin the process of joining this community:
1. Accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. When a person accepts Christ as their savior they are technically already “members” of the body of Christ. At that point he/she has an unbreakable bond with Christ and other believers. They are a member the family of God. But participating members of the local church commit to making the invisible visible, the abstract concrete. They show the world that they are committed to Christ and to His purposes in the world.
2. “Starting Point” is strongly recommended for every person interested in becoming a member at FBC McKinney. Here, every interested person can become fully aware of what it means to become a member and what is expected of every member.
3. Pray that God will guide you to make a covenant decision with Him and with the church that you will be devoted to this community of faith.
4. Contact the appropriate age-division minister if you have any further questions about the church (i.e. ministry opportunities, Bible Fellowship Groups, etc...). Children are strongly encouraged to meet first with Alan Michael, our Children’s Minister before joining the church.
5. At the time of invitation (when the pastor calls for anyone who would like to come and join the church) come forward and tell one of our ministers of the decision you are making. That minister will welcome you gladly and pray for you and with you. The minister will then match you up with our "Response Team" so that you can be sure of your decision and feel comfortable with it. This is done in a room adjacent to the Worship Center.
In addition to the actual invitation time at the end of every service, you can also join the church at our Membership Station located in the Connection. The Connection is the hallway connecting the main building with the Family Sports Center. There is a kiosk in the Connection where you will find the Membership Station. Just speak with one of ministers there at the kiosk. He or she will be more than happy to take down your information and briefly discuss with you the particulars about church membership.
6. We will introduce you to your new church family via technology! Some people are very uncomfortable standing in front of hundreds of people. This does not reflect a lack of commitment or faith. It actually reflects personality or personal preference. So, on the Sunday following the decision made, we show pictures of those who made decisions the week before so that your new church family can say “yes!” to your decision and get to know you a little.
7. Find a Bible Fellowship Group. There you will study God’s Word, find your place of service, and enter into accountable, life-giving relationships that are critical to spiritual growth.
The Different Ways People Join FBC McKinney
When a person presents himself/herself for membership in First Baptist Church, the person shall be received under any of the following scenarios:
-
By profession of faith as personal Lord and Savior and as a candidate for baptism and upon their baptism into full membership of the church.
-
By letter of membership from another Baptist church stating that you have been baptized and have been a member of another Baptist church. When you join, our church office will contact your former church to let them know that you have joined here. We will request a “letter” from your former church, which is essentially a record of your membership there. This will allow us to add you to our membership roll and for them to take you off of their roll.
-
By statement of a prior conversion and previous believer’s baptism and membership in a Baptist church.
-
By affirmation of baptism stating that your profession of faith in Christ as personal Savior followed by immersion baptism was in agreement with the Biblical principles of Believer’s Baptism by immersion as a symbol.
