Basketball Mission Trip Summer '08
Ovalle
, Chile
Dates June 13th - 22th
Why go to Chile?
Chileans are generally religious but also very superstitious. Most of them maintain some allegiance to the Catholic Church. However, very few have a personal relationship with the Lord. They feel duty bound to go to the Catholic Church on special days such as the Ascension of Mary or on the day of her immaculate conception. However, most Chileans (75% according to a recent study commissioned by the Catholic Church) do not attend mass on a regular basis.
In the Norte Chico 5% of the people claim to participate in Evangelical Churches. An EvangelicalChurch would be defined as any non-Catholic or non-Mormon church. Of those who claim to be Evangelical, about half attend weekly worship. Almost all of the people who attend Evangelical churches are people from the lower economic classes. The number of Evangelical Christians in the professional class in Northern Chile is very small.
The great challenge is helping people to see that being a Christian does not mean that you have to be poor or undereducated. Jesus came for the sins of all people, rich and poor, male and female. Most men see any religion as the exclusive domain of women and children. This has caused the churches that do exist to be very weak financially and in terms of leadership. Our prayer is that men and women, Catholics and Evangelicals will study God's word and realize the importance of maintaining an active daily relationship with Jesus Christ.

Baseball Mission Trip Summer of '08
Bad Oeynhausen, Germany
Dates: July 25 to August 3rd
Why go to Germany?
1.
Only 3% of the German population have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
2.
There are churches in northern Germany that are trying to reach out to their community. This trip could serve an important role in strengthening these churches in an area that has little evangelical witness.
3.
The methodology of utilizing a baseball camp for 9-19 yr. old German youth has proven to be ground-breaking in it’s effectiveness. Many German youth and adults are being reached by this approach that otherwise may not have been reached.
4.
The language barrier is minimized by the English language skills of the German youth and the ready availability of Christian German translators.
The follow-up with the German people is insured by the commitment of the churches to follow-up.
Cost: $1,378
