Men’s Softball and Basketball
The Family Sports Ministry currently has sports evangelism opportunities available in men’s softball and basketball through our partnership with Sports Reach Ministries. Sports Reach takes teams from NTX into more than 25 prisons annually. Since 1998 more than 1500 inmates have made professions of faith in Christ and many thousands have heard the Gospel.
Events are conducted year round and are usually scheduled for weekends except for an annual mission trip that is normally 4-7 days long.
A typical day inside a prison will include several games against inmate teams and between games there will be time set aside for sharing, singing and talking with the inmates. The gospel is always presented and men are given the opportunity to make life changing decisions. In addition to athletes, participants may include musicians and non-athletes who just spend time with the prisoners during the games. Men who participate in the ministry are given opportunities for training in sharing their personal testimonies and in sharing the gospel. Emphasis is given to creating one on one sharing opportunities at each event.
One of the primary objectives of our day is to have fun with the prisoners and let them know there are people who care about them and above all that Jesus loves them. We want to show them that being a Christian is fun and exciting and maybe just for a little while, they can forget where they are and enjoy some fun competition and good fellowship. We have been told by many of the inmates that our visit is the highlight of their year.
