Family Cycling Day

Why Cycling?

The sport of cycling is the 3rd largest sport Cycling 1.gif

in the world and north Texas is one of the most

popular areas in the US for participants.

Cycling involves athletes who range from recreation

to highly skilled competitive racers with many levels

in between.  It is a versatile sport that can be used

i n both competitive and noncompetitive settings and

in many different types of events.

When sponsored and supported by the local church cycling can be used to help believers convert their passion for sport into an effective outreach.  Using creativity and involvement in a common passion for sport, participants can learn how to start spiritual conversations, learn how to share the gospel, and have opportunities to invite seekers to be involved in a non-threatening environment where can hear about Jesus Christ.

In addition to outreach, activities will also serve to support and under gird the family and strengthen the church as athletes are encouraged and taught to balance their training time with family leadership and church involvement.

Opportunity

While cycling can be used in many different ways in sports ministry, here are just a few possible uses:

·            Weekly, biweekly, or monthly bike rides             Cycling 2.gif

·             Sports Ministry Awareness Bike Tour

·             Retreat for cycling / endurance athletes

·             Fund Raising for Mission Trip

·             Evangelistic Bike Rally / Crusade

Cycling News

March 24, 2008

By:  Eddie Anderson

The weather is warming up and so are the cycling activities around North Texas.  We’ve had several events this year and have seen quite a few new faces on our rides.  We expect to see the number of people on rides grow as the weather continues to warm up.  The number of people in our database is growing and other groups are getting started around our area.  One of the newest is a group at FBC Allen and we are working on the possibility of getting some rides scheduled together with them.

One change you are going to see in our cycling ministry is in regard to our method of communication.  We will continue to keep the web page updated on the church web site but you will start receiving all of your email communication through IC3 NTX.  Your email news and announcements will now be coming through ConstantContact.com.  This change will be effective immediately.

We are continuing to look at ideas for activities and strategies we can use to reach the lost through cycling and support the missional strategy of FBC.  We are working with the staff at FBC on the timing and strategy for our first event.  We hope to be able to have some type of event for the Transforming Your World weekend in April.  These activities will be conducted with the support of IC3 NTX so be sure to check their web site and look for email news as well as checking our web site.  If you have ideas for ministry activities please let us know.

If you haven’t done so already, please consider joining the IC3 club.

Check below for new rides scheduled for April - June.

As always, if you have ideas or comments or have friends who want to get involved feel free to use the on line form at the bottom of the cycling ministry page to stay in touch with us.

See you at the next event.

Mountain bike rides meet at ErwinPark

PLEASE USE THE COMMENT SECTION IN THE FORM BELOW TO LET US KNOW YOU ARE PARTICIPATING IN AN EVENT.  Registration is not required but we would like to have an idea of how many are coming so we can plan properly.

Note:  Time and dates may change due to weather.

As the number of riders for events grows we will be flexible to allowing faster riders to split off during rides to go faster and further distances.  This will be an “on the spot” decision until our ride numbers are consistent.
